The Butterfly Novels

“At Strandbrook College, we’re kids of diplomats, media stars, artists, musicians, actors . . .”

Book 1: And By The Way…

Six months ago, I lost my mum to cancer and my dad, ‘The Rockstar’, to work. Now, I don’t do close. That way I won’t get hurt.

My friend Rachel won’t let give up on me. And that’s a problem.

So is David McFadden, a guy in my class who says he wants to help. Six months ago, he could have but didn’t. Now, it’s too late. The last person I’m going to listen to is David McFadden. When he calls me Ice Queen, I’ll show him just how right he is.

Book 2: And For Your Information…

My friends, Alex and Rachel are minted. My money runs out. All the time.

After Alex’s mum died, Rachel knew how to help. It made them closer. They don’t mean to leave me out. And I try not to mind.

I have a sort-of boyfriend. We don’t talk about the stuff that matters. But it’s better than nothing, right?

I’m not even going to talk about my family.

Shoplifting wasn’t exactly on my list of things to do before I die but it makes me feel amazing. In control. Until I’m caught. And my life, weirdly, begins.

Book 3: And Actually…

When I first met Alex and Sarah – in detention – they treated me like I was normal. A human being. They actually liked me – thought it took a while to trust that. I’ve never told them about my life before I met them. I wanted a new one. A fresh start.

Now, they think I’m the strong one, the one with all the answers, the guru. No clue why.

When I get a part in a TV drama it’s all my dreams come true. It’ll also bring me face-to-face with someone from my past. But I’m a different person now. And I’m sure Rebecca is too. No matter what, there’s no way I’m going to let my past destroy my future.

  1. I would just like to say that I adore your books, in particular, the “Butterfly” novels. Each of them has made me cry and laugh! I have enjoyed them thoroughly and I hope you write more young adult books exactly like these. They are exactly what older teenagers, such as myself, would like to read! Thank you!

    • Thanks so much Kate for getting in touch. Really delighted you enjoy my books. I am writing a young adult book now. It is set in the past. It’s the first time I’ve historical and I’m surprised how much I’m loving it. I am guided by my heart. If I stopped doing that, I would stop writing. I really hope you enjoy it as much as the others when I am (finally) finished. I would like to do another Butterfly then, involving Alex perhaps. Thanks so much for wondering. }I{

  2. Before reading the butterfly serious, I’d had a lot of things really stressing me out, what with school and unreliable friends. Reading the serious has really helped me put things into perspective, especially after reading ‘And For Your Information’. It had gotten to the stage where, I was worrying so much about things, I was actually making myself sick. Reading Sarah’s story, though, has shown me just how trivial the things I’d been worrying over are, and it’s really helped to me to the more important things in my life. It’s actually given the courage to stand up to a person who’d been giving me crap for a while! I am so amazingly happy that you wrote these books. Thank you so much!!!
    I have to ask, will you be writing any more stories concerning the magic trio? 🙂 xox }I{

    • Niamh, thank you so much for getting in touch. I am so glad that you did. It means so much to me that my books could have that effect. It means more than anything, to be honest. I am so glad that they have helped you and that you are in a happier place now. Go you! I am writing something much different now – because I always follow my heart and there was a story that had to be written – but I have another story for Alex that I am dying to get to. I wish I was a faster writer. Thanks again for your comment. It means the world to me. Take care. xxx }I{

  3. Hi Denise! I totally love all of your butterfly novels and in some ways relate to the three girls. I love how they were set in Ireland; it was so refreshing to read about the country that I live in instead of places like England and America. Your books are probably one of my favourite YA novels. Can I ask because I wasn’t so sure whether at the end of the novels does Alex and David end up together with Maggie? I also really love the idea if another book from Alex’s perspective (she’s my favourite)! If you do write another book will David be in it, and will they be happily together? x

  4. These three books are some of the best books I have ever read. At the end of ‘And For Your Information’ I cried for hours. I fell in love with the trio and I would LOVE to be able to write books as good as these! It would be amazing to have another book about Maggie or something! Thank you so much Denise for making these life-changing books! :’)

    • Hey Lauren, thanks so much for getting in touch. So glad you enjoyed The Butterfly Novels. I’m working on something so completely different right now that you would be amazed. I’m loving it. I would love to do another Butterfly. And thanks so much for your lovely message. It is messages like this that keep me writing x

  5. Hello Denise,
    I really really love your books! They are just amazing 🙂
    It’s really funny, but a few days ago I did my first ever webside https://stopfisbuecherwelten.wordpress.com/ and I wanted to make a category “My favourite authors”. So I searched your homepage, and now you are on wordpress, too!
    I hope my text is understandable, but I am from Germany…
    Best regards, Stopfi ❤

  6. I loved all The Butterfly Novels, especially Sarah and Shane’s story in ‘And For Your Information’.
    I can not wait until the movie is made, I am sure it will be amazing. I hope you write more books because you really bring the characters to life and you are one of my favourite authors.

    • Oh thanks so much Claire, that’s so lovely to hear. So lovely of you to get in touch to let me know. Really appreciate it. }I{
